The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 97th Annual Meeting is currently held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C and will end on Thursday, 11 January 2018. The information-packed programme is expected to attract more than 13,000 transportation professionals from all over the world.
All transportation modes were covered during the five days of the conference, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 800 sessions and workshops, addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. A number of sessions and workshops focussed on the spotlight theme for the 2018 meeting: Transportation: Moving the Economy of the Future.
Cindy Guerlain from SUCCESS coordinator LIST is present at the TRB. In the first day she participated in the workshop “How to create a Freight Research Community that learns from failure?” which gave an enriching insight. One aspect which was often mentioned as the major cause of failure was the lack of revenue due to non-viable business models. This observation clearly underlines the interest of the SUCCESS project to provide viable business models for the construction supply chain.
Cindy Guerlain highlights that the topic of urban freight is very present at the TRB. Also, the high number of participants during the meeting of the Urban Freight Transportation Committee is impressive and shows the huge interest in this topic. A whole day dedicated to urban freight was organised on Tuesday, 9 January. Besides, many sessions are dedicated to connected and automated vehicles (CAV) out of which one specifically addressed freight vehicles.
The SUCCESS project was moreover invited to participate in the EC-US Urban Freight Roundtable on Thursday, 11 January. More information will follow soon.
